Joy

I love Christmas, I love everything about it: the beautiful Christmas lights, the Christmas Carols and the gingerbreads, the atmosphere is absolutely amazing. Even though my family was quite broken somehow there was peace at Christmas, it has the best of childhood memories it has the best of everything. For me Christmas is the best time of the year.

I opened my Bible to the Christmas story:

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid! For behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people: 11 Today in the city of David a Savior has been born to you. He is Christ the Lord!

Luke 2:10–11 (BSB)

I was reminded of the joy of Christmas, there is a lot of joy in the Christmas story and that joy is for all! There are three powerful truths in it that we can easily miss.

It really happened

While billions have heard the Christmas story, many miss the fact that it is a Real Story! It is something that actually took place, something that really happened!

There is a beautiful reason

The second truth is that there is reason for the story. Joseph the fiancé of Mary saw that Mary was pregnant, but they had not made love yet and obviously this must have been very hard for him. He was thinking of divorcing Mary quietly, but an angel appeared to Joseph in a dream and talked to him.

But after he had pondered these things, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to embrace Mary as your wife, for the One conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a Son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus,d because He will save His people from their sins.”

Matthew 1:20–21 (BSB)

God send Jesus because we could not save ourselves. The Bible gives us wonderful promises that are so beautiful, so freeing, that everyone should stop and just marvel at the love, goodness and beauty of what God has done.

The angel said “you are to give Him the name Jesus,d because He will save His people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21 (BSB)

This is the good news, it means that I do not need to earn my way to heaven, earn my way to eternal life. Jesus makes it possible for us, and not only that, but Jesus can also make me brand new. The Bible says:

So from now on we regard no one according to the flesh. Although we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. 17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.e The old has passed away. Behold, the new has come!

2 Corinthians 5:16–17 (BSB)

Jesus said:

Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not come under judgment. Indeed, he has crossed over from death to life.

John 5:24 (BSB)

It is a Fulfilled Promise

The third truth that we can easily miss is that it is a promise fulfilled.

I heard a message online and the point was powerful. Unfortunately, I do not remember the speaker but please let me share my thoughts and paraphrase it.

Years ago, maybe over 4000 years ago there was a man named Abraham. God gave him several promises, promises that were fulfilled.

God promised to make his name great and today over 4000 years later most of the people have heard the name of Abraham. God promised to make him into a great nation and from the descendants of Abraham came several nations. God gave him a promise that all the families or nations of the earth will be blessed through him, and I believe this promise was fulfilled in the birth of Jesus.

So today, I ask you to put your faith in Jesus. To choose to trust him, that he will save you. Trust him that he paid for all of your sins so that you don’t have to and just accept it with lots of joy and thankfulness.

If that is you let’s pray together:

Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for Christmas, thank you for sending Jesus.
I choose to believe that Jesus saves me from my sins. Please forgive me, guide me, and be the leader and Lord of my life. Please give me your Holy Spirit and help me to love you, trust you and follow you all the days of my life. In Jesus name I pray Amen.

If you gave life to Jesus, we want to celebrate with you. Please drop us a note so that we can pray for you and help you to find a good church family.

I wish all of you a Merry Christmas!
May God bless you this season.
